Part 5 : Atlants

5  – Pop Wuh

History of Pop Wuh

Pop Wuh, literally “book time” or “book of
events” in Quiche, is the most important document we have on the myths of
the Maya civilization.

The version we have dates back to 1550, about 30 years
after the Spanish conquest

This version of anonymous is probably due to a Mayan
religious trying to keep track of a very old oral tradition;

It was written in the Mayan language but in Latin

The manuscript was “discovered” at the beginning
of the eighteenth century by a monk dominicain, Father Francisco Ximenez, who
managed to get the Quiche Indians living near Chichicastenango.

Then he made a translation, while keeping the original
Quiche, which saves the original text, the manuscript has since disappeared.

Father Ximenez found that when the book spoke of God, in
the translation he had made, of course, it was entirely consistent with
Scripture and the Catholic faith!

From the moment the original manuscript has disappeared!

The Spanish invaders destroyed all
the books and writings they found

Bishop Diego de Landa said, we found a large number of
books covered their signs, and as they contained only demonic superstitions and
fallacies, we have burned

He was the organizer of the destruction of Mani in Yucatan
July 12, 1562 where he had to collect and destroy thousands of idols and
documents (including 27”roll”), obtained by methods described as extreme .

Four translations of the Quiche manuscript copy of the
father Ximenez, preceded that of Adrian Chavez, two and two to Spanish to

They have in common have been made by foreigners to the
people and language ki-che …

That of Chavez Here is what Jean-Marie Le Clezio:

This new translation of the ledger Maya Ki-Che is
undoubtedly the most authentic.

Adrian Chavez is an Indian Che-ki who devoted his life to
the study of his native language and to correct transcription errors

(It is nice, I would say falsifications!) Due to Father
Francisco Jimenez and misinterpretations of previous translations

You go and see for yourself, Adrian Chavez himself a
practiced self-censorship, talking to each element or changing the facts
slightly, so that his version is ‘Christian’ acceptable!

Because even today, the Mayan shamans have to go to church
every Sunday under threat of persecution !!!!!!

None of the original, the Gods decided to create the
world, to make hardware and the people of creatures to be adored.

After the traditional creation of the earth, mountains,
flora and fauna, they created the first humans from clay.

This first attempt has proved unsuccessful, a second
attempt was made from wood, these wooden men were frivolous, vain and lazy.

The gods made them then die by means of a rain of fire

In the end, they made a last attempt to shape men from

The human race finds its final substance, and four women
were created in turn

These eight people are behind the whole human race (in
fact all Indian tribes)

There is then the wanderings of two twin brothers, and
Hunahpú Ixbalanqué that go through the ball game destroy the evil inhabitants
of a mythical kingdom called Xibalba (kingdom of darkness beneath the earth).

It is interesting to note the history of design by a
teenage virgin, impregnated by the simple touch of his hand with saliva after
the head of another person killed by the people of Xibalba.

But the gods were frightened by seeing the power they had
conferred on the new human men, but in principle perfect, that they seek to
supplant them.

That’s why they decided to restrict their meaning, and to
limit their view and their intelligence.

These people will then divide and make war

The text goes on with a family history tracing the lives
of descendants of the first men to the Governors of the Maya-Quiche nation.

This part, more
“historical” and less mythological, gives many interesting details
about the lifestyle, the political and tribal rivalries

money is the human predator
